Things continue to go from bad to worse for the New York Rangers after it was announced this morning the team would not be extending the contract of their elite Left-Winger Artemi Panarin.
Panarin, 34, is currently in his final year of a monster 7-year, $81.5M contract.
on Friday Morning, Rangers president and GM Chris Drury released a letter to the team's fans stating "no one in the organization is happy with what has transpired," bringing New York to "a retool built around our core players and prospects".
"This will not be a rebuild", the letter added.
According to reports, before releasing the letter, Drury met with members of the leadership group and addressed the team as a whole. As part of this retool process, Artemi was informed he would not receive a contract extension, and that Drury was prepare to work with him and agent Paul Theofanous to trade the winger anywhere he wishes to go.
As it currently stands, Panarin has a full no-movement clause on his contract and could play out the remainder of the season with the Rangers.
The Russian superstar has been the Rangers most consistent forward this season, putting up a respectable 51 points in 47 games.
The New York Rangers have been struggling to string wins together this season, and currently sit 16th in the Eastern Conference with a 20-22-6 record. With their playoff hopes fading away, and the trade deadline fast approaching, we can expect a Panarin trade to be announced in the coming weeks.
